Career Counselling & Higher Education Guidance

The City School International – Sharjah

At The City School International – Sharjah, we believe that everything we do should open as many doors as possible. We work closely with both students and parents to explore the endless opportunities that await beyond school. With skilled professionals experienced in post-16 information, advice, and guidance, we support our TCSI families in exploring future careers, university pathways, and ensuring that every transition is smooth and well-planned.

Career Counselling at TCSI Sharjah is about inspiring students to dream big and achieve their true potential. This journey begins from the age of 14, enabling students to build strong academic and extracurricular portfolios when applying to their preferred universities.

We believe students must first understand themselves before successfully navigating the university search. Our counsellor guides them through a reflective process focused on self-discovery as much as academic exploration. The result is students choosing universities where they truly belong — institutions in which they thrive academically and personally.

University Applications (Years 12 & 13)

For students in Years 12 and 13, the university application process marks the beginning of individual independence. While it is demanding and time-intensive, it is also an exciting and revealing experience. Through research, application writing, and personal statements, students reflect on who they are, what they value, and what direction they wish to pursue in life.

At TCSI Sharjah, the student remains at the center of the application process — supported by teachers, counsellors, and parents — but empowered to take ownership of their future.

Our Career Counselling Programme

At TCSI Sharjah, Career Counselling:

  • Emphasizes the importance of “fit” throughout the university search process

  • Promotes collaboration between students, parents, teachers, and counsellors

  • Provides a structured university search experience through Unifrog

  • Connects students with universities locally and globally through campus visits, counselling sessions, fairs, and events

Careers & Higher Education Guidance

Career education begins as early as Year 8. Students explore career pathways aligned with their strengths, aspirations, and abilities. Our strong links with universities allow us to invite guest speakers and admissions representatives to provide insight into university life, application procedures, and academic expectations.

Our structured programme includes:

  • Expert briefings on university pathways and application processes

  • Seminars delivered by professionals from various industries

  • Visits to higher education fairs and hosting in-school University Fairs

  • Training in CV writing, application forms, and interview skills

  • Detailed and supportive reference writing by experienced staff

  • Psychometric assessments and life-skills sessions focused on reflection and SMART goal setting

Follow-up interviews are conducted in Years 11, 12, and 13 to ensure continuous guidance and support.

The College Application Journey

The college application process is an opportunity for growth, reflection, and self-discovery. While outcomes are important, we believe university admission is about finding the right match between student and institution.

Our counselling programme is an extension of our educational philosophy. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for gathering information, organizing applications, and requesting recommendations — essential life skills that foster independence and confidence.
